FourSevensRueful Version |
Alternative evolution methods, which are available within the FourSevensRueful Version, are separate from those normally performed in canon Prodigy, where monsters/pets and other entities may change evolutionary form in ways that are not natural. Natural evolution occurs through great physical and mental changes to life forms over short periods of time in Prodigy, often defying standards for Darwinian gradualism and punctuated equilibrium. In Prodigy, monsters and pets that evolve not only endure drastic changes to their body shape and coloration, but they are also said to have the capacity to become more intelligent and understanding of the natural world and their surroundings. Oftentimes in Prodigy, evolution does not occur in cutscenes critical to the plot of the main story or any side quests or events and only happens off screen or under the player's control after a battle and when their pets level up after earning the necessary amount of stars.
Overview[]
While leveling up to a level that fits the minimum requirement for evolution to occur is Prodigy's current and only form of natural evolution (given that the player has a membership that permits them to evolve their monsters/pets), alternative evolution methods (AEMs) may be canon, or implemented in Prodigy, in the future. They may require leveling pets/monsters up to a level of experience and may require a membership in addition to other requirements or they may not require the achievement of stars at all. Leveling up an egg (egg-hatching is a fanon feature) is often not a method of evolution from egg to mobile life form and will not be included in the below methods.
Requirement Type | Method Description | Fanon Examples of Direct Evolutions by Method | Math Required? |
---|---|---|---|
Item Consumption | A being that reacts with an item or several items at once may experience induced evolution. These items permanently disappear as a result. | Eftorch, Ampereshed, some Eggs | Yes, if any item consumed requires math to obtain. |
Item Interaction | A being that reacts with an item or several items at once may experience induced evolution. These items do not disappear. | Some Eggs | Yes, if any item needed requires math to obtain. |
Quest Completion | If a being needs to be part of a plot or sub-plot in Prodigy to change form, the player must complete a quest or series of quests to evolve said being. | None | Yes, if the quests and all prior quests of the same lineage need math to complete. |
Affection | A monster/pet or other being under an owner's care that develops a decent, platonic relationship or an exceptionally bad relationship may experience induced evolution. | None | Yes, if changing affection requires math to do. |

Improving Gameplay[]
The inclusion of AEMs would allow players more challenges beyond the grind of increasingly less-rigorous battles and star-driven monster farming. More ownable monsters/pets may be introduced as a result in case the developers would not want to change the methods of evolving pre-existing ones and could allow filling a living Bestiary to be more difficult.
Math Factor[]
Some AEMs may require use of additional spell casting or other quests that require the player to answer math questions. If players encounter obstacles that require mathematics to clear that are not capable of combat, no battle would be needed to evolve a monster/pet. However, it would still require players to answer questions correctly and, in turn, learn new skills.
