Barāquian is a religious group in fanon material.
Members[]
Most members of the Astral, Moon, Sun, Creek, and Werewolf tribes are Barāquian, usually splitting into the different rays. The Astral and Creek tribes mainly follow the Almānuin ray, the Sun tribe the Rasolist, and the Moon and Werewolf tribes the Yueist ray. Certain wizards also follow this religion, but they usually follow the Almānuin ray.
Culture[]
Barāquian is a religion centered around astrology. It was originally a worship of the Celestial element (granted, in a different way from Cenorism). However, it is now unrelated to all of the elementals - with the exception of Astral.
Rays[]
As opposed to Harmonism, the different subsections of Barāquian, called rays, have mostly different beliefs. Their root values are different and this reflects upon their laws.
Almānuin[]
Purity is the main value of Almānuin - the branch based around the stars. While Astral is considered to be a large part of Almānuin, he isn’t worshipped or used as anything more than a symbol.
Almānuin is centered around the twenty-five zodiac signs - Aries, Seira, Taurus, Suraut, Gemini, Inimeg, Cancer, Recnac, Leo, Oel, Virgo, Ogriv, Libra, Arbil, Scorpio, Oiprocs, Sagittarius, Suirattigas, Capricornus, Sunrocirpac, Aquarius, Suirauqa, Pisces, Secsip, and Ophiuchus.
The first twenty-four signs are the zodiacs and their reverse - the reverse being used whenever the star sign is not perfectly aligned in the sky. For example, if Aries was slightly slanted or off-center, it would be called Seira. Once Seira reaches exact alignment, it becomes Aries.
When a star sign is perfectly aligned, a celebration is thrown in different areas, depending on which element the sign is. Interestingly enough, Ice is not included in the zodiac, as Ice and Shiverchill Mountains are considered barren and lifeless. There are historical documents linking the Faen Wind to this, but Almānuin’s full history has been lost to time.
The beliefs of Almānuin are centered around their core value, purity. While the Ebēqaddasheng states that purity is impossible to achieve, the Almānuin branch tries to achieve it the best they can. It follows the ideal that everybody is good at heart, and evil is corruption. Karma is something Almānuin is heavily rooted in, along with talent, soul, and morality.
Cleansing is one of the most commonly used acts, similar to baptism in Christianity and Catholicism. Almānuin followers can train for years to become a cleanser. Cleansers use their natural magic to rid evil from a person, and usually recite from the Ebēqaddasheng. Cleansing usually happens when a star sign is slightly askew, in the hopes that this cleansing will bring the stars to their best state. Neither Shadow nor Astral are ever mentioned in this cleansing process - in fact, both elementals are considered to be forces of nature. Astral is simply their symbol, used to represent the purity of stars. Some Almānuin believers even shun him, thinking of him as a knock-off or replacement of Celestial.
