Blueflame Theory is a fanon theory about Prodigy Math first developed by FourSevensRueful.
Overview[]
Ever since the earliest introduction of blue-colored fire in Prodigy, the community has been curious as to what hidden meanings are behind it in the game. Some of the community have never seen blue fire in real life or in other games, making it a hallmark motif in the game for those that never recognized it anywhere else. Of course, developers and story artists who developed the Nintendo Multiverse, Pokémon[1][2][3], The Dark is Rising Sequence, Harry Potter and other J. K. Rowling content, and other fandoms[4][5] include blue fire as themes of specific parts of stories crucial to minor and major plots. The symbolic meaning and level of mentioned abundance varies in every fandom, which most likely means that Prodigy has its own ideas for the symbolic meaning of blue flames.
Symbolic Meanings in Popular Culture[]
The premise assumes that Prodigy designed and intentionally continues to weave in occurrences where blue flames are present to show hidden meanings[6]. In other fandoms, they may mean an array of things.
- In The Dark is Rising Sequence, candles that produce blue fire in the presence of the Dark no longer create heat; blue fire is a variant of fire and appears to indicate a shift or change in tone in plots--often, warm-colored candles symbolize happiness and hope to Great-Uncle Merriman and his subordinates, so blue fire could be a contrast. A lack of happiness and a lack of hope, perhaps[7].
- In Super Mario 3D World, levels in the World Castle such as Fort Fire Bros. and Boiling Blue Bully Belt contain blue lava, undead enemies, and blue fire. These levels are exceptionally difficult for newer players, so the blue lava might represent extreme heat or extreme hardness[8][9].
Prodigy Occurrences and Notes[]
- All-Out Attacks used to produce blue fire after being cast. In the Battle Remake to be released in 2023, the animation of this spell changed into a slightly greener blue to match other cyan-colored magic mechanics of the remake.
- It is also present underwater, so it must be immune from being quenched unless underwater worlds or underwater battles are provided pressurized air, temporarily.
- All fire, whether from fire element spells, All-Out Attacks, or Focus Spells, are immune to quenching in underwater battles if battles truly occur when submerged. This would nullify any special properties of blue fire that relate to indistinguishability by water.
- All-Out Attacks produce blue light that, when concentrated, becomes whiter.
- Within Harmony Island, pedestals produce levitating blue fire when players collect runes or complete a long series of rune runs without collecting runes. Pedestals also light when they obtain runes from the Harmony Island Arena.
- The ground and ruts in ground around and in between pedestals create a thaumaturgical, 2D figure. Blue-white light glows from the ground and pedestals when a trial is available.
- This light is also visible on The Ancient when they cast spells or are idle. In the Ray of The Ancient, pastel light lying heavily on blue and other cool colors and is reminiscent of The Ancient's color scheme. These pastel colors match those of the opal-like stone in the center of of the Warden Keystone turntable within the Academy.
- Ancient Rune spells also produce light blue glyphs of the same color as the Ancient and their "henge" stones, when alight.
- Bluefury Magmayhem exists and is a more recently-discovered variant of Magmayhem, implying that it is rare. However, both possess the same power, health, and spell learnsets.
TL;DR[]
Blue fire and soft blue light in Prodigy represent various things—the Astral element, immense magical power, and anything that is connected to the Ancient. Players are encouraged to look for new instances of blue fire and soft blue light in upcoming updates and quest releases.
