This category is for morally-gray non-protagonist characters in fanfictions. Morally-gray characters are neither antagonists or protagonists. They often act villainy in some moments, while help the protagonist(s) at others.
- A misguided character does not typically count as a morally gray. When a morally-gray character does something wrong, they typically have an altruistic reason, even if the reader or protagonist(s) doesn't/don't know it.
- Morally-gray characters normally have difficult pasts, which caused them to have emotional weaknesses. These weaknesses may include lack of or excessive self-consciousness, their hubris, or anger issues.
- They have qualities often found in protagonists.
- They don't often have major character changes (like becoming full good or evil), but they do have character development. They might open up to the protagonist, or close up even more.
- They often face difficult choices, since their moral wobbles from good to evil. Because of this, morally gray characters often keep the reader guessing.
- Social relationships tend greatly affect them. Unlike antagonists, who sometimes close up entirely to others, or protagonists, who might have an argument then go back to being best friends, morally gray character's relationships affect their decisions, downfall, and redemption drastically,
If you character does meet all of above, they might simply be an antagonist, minor character, or protagonist.
