I do not own Crystal Caverns or most of the characters and worldbuilding.
The Crystal Caverns Update is for Prodigy English. It is packed with new features previously unfamiliar to the game during its early access period. Players are able to go to the City (the Dock in the deciduous forest area where players start out. They can use the Dock to travel by boat in a short cutscene that replays each time when a player moves between biomes by boat.
Once the player reaches the icy shores on the southwestern side of the Shiverchill Mountain range, they are met by the members of a multiracial mining town of dwarves, floatlings, yetis, and Comet Wishies--ice magic Wishies that have long fur to acclimate to the cold.
The player was invited to travel to the Crystal Caverns in the first place when they obtain a flier in their Player Mail, a fanon feature not unlike Wizard Mail that appears as a tab icon at the bottom right of their screen near the magnification tool. The letter states:
- A cold place has opened its icy heart to new people. You have a few friends waiting for you in Crystal Caverns!
Storyline[]
Once the player reaches the island and steps off of the canoe-like boat they traveled a long distance on, they are met by Shadstream, an early, teenage Comet Wishie that sent out the invitation. They also brought a friend--Hoot, a very old Purple Owl that they claimed to get from a series of wishes that they themselves made very early on in their life.
The Environment[]
The area available in Crystal Caverns is divided into two parts: the seaside town (literally called Crystal Caverns by the residents) and the mountain range to the east of it. They are separated by a snowy pass that appears like a choke point between hills; it temporarily obscures the player's avatar while they walk through, but the player can still get through to the other side.
Crystal Caverns's populated area is filled with pretty, diversely-built row houses (only Shadstream's house can be entered) and all have relatively young-looking NPCs walking around in the front. These are usually children, but they are sometimes young adults that have greater social intelligence and a less trusting attitude when you try to talk to them.
The player can complete jobs for the residents in the area by retrieving materials and furnishing items made from materials from the deciduous forest (and retrieve either Gold or Wishcoin for the materials). Some residents may also want materials from the eastern side of the town, but they will only pay for those materials in Gold.
A clothing store, general store, and blacksmith are also available in Crystal Caverns and they are run by their own merchants. The price and quality of the items sold in the area are both higher, but the player can "haggle" for a 5% markdown of any item in the general store or clothing store for no decrease in item quality; they may only haggle for one item's discount once per day.
