Part 1: Welcome to Crystal Caverns[]

Player (shaking): Wow, this place is so cold! I wonder if I can get a winter coat somewhere. Player (now still): I need to find some place to start looking for materials. Who invited me here, anyway? They should know.

The player steps off of the boat onto the frozen dock and walks around, looking at the working dwarves and floatlings in the distance.

Shadstream (yelling): HEY, YOU! HUMAN!

Shadstream flies into view, Hoot in tow. The player jumps and looks nervous.

Shadstream: Human, you arrived! You're one of the first people to come over from the deciduous forest to Crystal Caverns!

Shadstream: I sent out that invitation to every kid that won their village. Crystal Caverns is very lonely, and I haven't seen a human in the mountains in years.

Shadstream: My name is Shadstream. I am very pleased to meet you.

Shadstream: So, you look very cold. Before I talk too much, we should get you inside somewhere. Here, put this on first. Once we walk further inland, it will get much more bitter.

Shadstream gives the player a Parka, which doubles as a shirt and a hat (meaning that a player cannot put a hat over their hood). They automatically put it on.

Player: Thank you.

Shadstream: I made it myself. You're very welcome. Let's get you inside.

Shadstream makes the player follow them into their house. They allow the player to sit down and give them a cup of hot chocolate at the kitchen table.

Shadstream: What made you come here? Was it just the invitation?

Player: It was more to collect materials for my village. I'm sorry, I just really want to make it look pretty with decorations.

Shadstream: I understand. It can be really difficult to look at a place and not want to put a jungle gym in it.

Shadstream: *sighs* What I meant by "friends" was that I wanted people to come over and visit the place for how it truly is.

Shadstream: Crystal Caverns is a community I want to see thrive, and I don't want to have to go all the way to the Academy to learn magic.

Shadstream: There's no Academy, anyway. Not anymore. I don't want to have to go to school, that's what!

Shadstream: Don't you want to learn magic? You probably don't care about it. That's why you won an village for yourself.

Shadstream: I want to have more people in the town that can use magic to build it up, just like the old times.

Player: You want me to live here with you? We just met!

Shadstream: No! No, it's not like that! I thought that since your village was so successful that I'd want to see mine grow, too.

Shadstream: You see, the people of Crystal Caverns are struggling. We need humans like you to help us...well...harmonize.

Player: What do you mean?

Shadstream: I'm a teenager! I don't know the specifics. What I do know is that there is civil unrest here in Crystal Caverns.

Player: What's that?

Shadstream: Nearly a quarter of our population are homeless. Half of the people that aren't homeless need resources! I want to do something about it.

Another Comet Wishie floats down the stairs near the kitchen. This time, they didn't look friendly.

??? (furious): Shadstream! Who did you bring in today?

Shadstream: *gulps down the dregs from their hot chocolate* Just a friend.

??? (still furious): Alright, that's it. If your mother hasn't explicitly invited them over, they're not allowed in. K?

Shadstream and the player quickly stand up. Shadstream nods.

???: Bring your wretched homeless human friend outside. They're not welcome in this Wishie household!

Shadstream takes the player by the hand and both exit the building, running away a safe distance. The wind picks up.

Part 2: A Day With Shadstream[]

Hoot: Whoooo!

Shadstream: Yeah, that was a doozy. That was my father. He's not the nicest person in Crystal Caverns.

Player: What does he have against me!?

Shadstream: He's a big meanie to everyone that isn't a Wishie.

Shadstream: He's really protective over me and believes that Wishies are superior to everyone out there.

Shadstream: Can I be honest with you?

Player: Sure!

Shadstream: I've been thinking about running away from this family.

Player: I'm going to stop you right there. Running away is not the best idea.

Player: It's too cold and too dangerous. You're, what, a teenager?

Shadstream (insecure): I'm thirteen years old. But I don't care!

Player: It's dangerous to go it alone in Crystal Caverns. Especially after the war.

Shadstream (amused): You actually believe in that? That was just an old tale humans used to tell other humans to make them dislike magic.

Shadstream: There's nothing wrong with me building a house for myself. In fact, I want to build many houses...houses for everyone!

Shadstream: I want a place to live in that supports me. I want to live in peace with everyone and make my father learn that his beliefs aren't right.

Shadstream: He too believes that that war actually happened. He was raised by humans and that had a corrupting influence on his mind.

Shadstream: He believes that his foster parents were evil because their ancestors practiced bad magic...magic that took away the hope of other people.

Player: And you think running away from him will fix his problem?

Player: I really want to help you, but we just met. Tell me more.

Shadstream: I will if you follow me.

Shadstream leads the player down across the mountain pass into the deeper parts of the caverns. They come across a tall ice crystal tree with a makeshift treehouse, more like a panel of 2x4s, screwed into the thick branches. They climb up.

Shadstream: This is my own panic room. I go here to collect my thoughts.

Player: That's nice, but how does that have anything to do with-

Shadstream (loud): IT ALLOWS ME TO COLLECT MY THOUGHTS!

Shadstream (quieter): It also allows me to talk to people that aren't Wishies without my father knowing.

Shadstream: I like to hold conversations with the other teenagers that have no homes and I like to talk with the children that lack resources necessary to survive.

Shadstream: My father thinks of them and their parents as lazy, that they do not do enough.

Shadstream (sad): To him, being human, dwarf, yeti, or floatling with no other home is an excuse to live on "his property."

Shadstream: By the way, do you know who the real leader of Crystal Caverns is?

Player: No. Who is it?

Shadstream: That's the problem: there are no leaders. Nobody is here to take action when I think that there needs to be a law.

Shadstream: Nobody bothers to give the wanderers homes or the children the food they need to stay healthy.

Shadstream: I am only a teenager, but I can see that no amount of wishing has ever done our town any good.

Shadstream: I have summoned fruits and meats, but I can't feed more than a single floatling at a time.

Player: Have you tried asking your father to make you something for you so you can give it to a person in secret?

Shadstream: I actually tried that once. He caught me and grounded me for a week.

Shadstream: He's been grooming me from a young age to be just like him--snarky, angry, and unforgiving.

There was silence for a minute.

Shadstream (even quieter): I feel like I need to be alone now.

The player leaves and goes back to the Crystal Caverns village with new goals that they have written for themself. These quest goals are:

Part 3: Building a House[]

The player completes both Sympathy Gift and Trees for Treehouses.

Hoot: Whohoo!

Shadstream (aside): That's right. This kid knows how to cheer me up.

Shadstream: Thank you...thank you so much! I'm much better now. I still have a lot of things to do, and I know I can't do them on my own.

Shadstream: Before we work together to prove ourselves helpful to Crystal Caverns, we need to make this place a tree fort.

Shadstream: It will take a lot of effort, and it will definitely attract more children to volunteer for our goals.

Player (surprised): Woah, our goals? This is all your doing!

Shadstream: I consider you a part of the team. I know I just met you, but you seem like the hard-working type.

Shadstream: Who knows...maybe after we make a fort, all of the kids will decide to group up and lead the town in a way our parent's can't.

Shadstream (blushing): Anyway, I'm going to need you to gather a lot of resources from both the deciduous forest and the wilds of the caverns.

Shadstream: The fort won't build itself! Get to clearing some obstacles in the area to obtain the necessary materials.

The player receives the following quest goals:
The Tree Fort Recipe is hidden away somewhere in Crystal Caverns. The player will have to solve a slide puzzle to open an ancient door to a frozen-over metal safe that contains the recipe.
The player returns to Shadstream in the treehouse, who gladly lets the player in once they have completed the tasks.

Shadstream (excited): You did all of what I asked, right? Great! Now it's time to put our plans to action.

Shadstream: I will need you to venture a bit deeper into the caverns. There are many more tall trees and ore rocks that we can use to make the fort out of.

Shadstream: Since you will need *checks notes* 100 of each of the more common cavern materials, I suggest you go as far out to the east as possible.

Hoot: Who? Who hoo hwo?

Shadstream: That's right; it's a bit more hard to crack through those crystals in the east since it has a higher concentration of Ice magic there.

Shadstream: Anyway, get to it! I'll be waiting.

The player receives two quest goals:
  • A Key to the Caverns: Enter the east side of the caverns.
  • Mama Mia Florian's Pizza: Harvest 100 Ice Crystal Wood and 100 Iron from obstacles within Crystal Caverns: East.
The east side of the caverns is blocked by several boulders that have suspiciously-shaped logs underneath them. The player must expend energy trying to move them up, like pick-up-sticks, to create a safe underpass to enter into Crystal Caverns: East.

Part 4: Finishing Touches[]

The player returns to Shadstream after they complete all of the necessary quests.

Shadstream: Wow! Now you're doing it!

Shadstream: Listen, I'm starting to feel a little guilty just sitting here and pouting. My father wants me to come back to his house because "it's getting cold."

Shadstream: That's why I have to leave you with a few more tasks. I know...I know. I should really be helping out. This was my idea.

Shadstream: Wait...no! I'll just have to go. I'll come back once the fort is built. Seeing that you have learned the recipe, it shouldn't take long.

The player is given a single quest: Home Economy: Complete the 50-step process to building the fort. Once the player uses the hammer action on the house and sends away the 100 Ice Crystal Wood and 100 Iron, they must complete 50 click-and-drag mini-games that expend energy each time. Once finished, the house will burst into a bright flurry of sparkles and become the fort.

Shadstream (flying in): Woah! Is that complete?

Player: I just finished it.

Shadstream: Wonderful. I am absolutely astounded by the amount of work you have done.

Shadstream (blushing): I'm starting to consider you a true friend. To think that a human from the deciduous forest would lend a hand like this.

Shadstream: I knew I could trust you!

All of a sudden, the blue streak on their hair glows brightly. It flashes and then dims, fizzling out like the wick of a candle. The hair and its pigment remains.

Shadstream: Woah woah woah! What just happened?

Player: Your hair--it, um, shined for a second. It was as bright as the reflection of sunlight on ice!

Shadstream: Was is the power of friendship that led me to appreciate things? Was it you? I say, I think this is a sign that we'll be even chummier in the near future.

Shadstream: I...I don't know what to make of this. I've never had such a great thing happen in Crystal Caverns.

Shadstream: ...

Shadstream: Well that was awkward. I don't want to tell my dad about this, anyway.

Shadstream: He'll probably just say that it's a sign from the stars that wishies are meant to rule over everybody else.

There is an awkward silence as a feisty tempest kicks up outside.

Shadstream: It must have some other purpose.

Player: I wonder what it is. I hope it is a good omen.

Shadstream (scoffs): Hah, no it isn't. Listen, I need to be alone with my thoughts right now. I have to think.

Shadstream: The future seems bleak, anyway. How can a tree fort be of any use to starving children?

The player leaves, but they are tasked with:
  • Cries of the Children: Stage 1: Donate 300 items in total to children in the Crystal Caverns; Stage 2: Donate 300 items in total to young adults in the Crystal Caverns.
  • THERE'S A BROKEN SIGN IN LEGO CITY: Construct the Task Sign in Crystal Caverns (it costs 100 Sticks, 50 Stones, 25 Wood, and 20 Acorns). This will open up Donations, a feature that allows players to donate to NPCs indirectly and receive Wishcoin as payment (technically negating the fact that it is not a method of donating).

Part 5: The Return[]

The player notices that the door is open to the tree fort after completing the above quests, so they enter.

Shadstream (smirking): I've been watching you.

Shadstream: Not like that! I mean, I've observed you helping out everyone. You're gaining their trust.

Shadstream: I've been sending Hoot out to look for you and to make sure you were safe. It can be pretty bitter out there.

Shadstream: Not one year ago, I've witnessed a fight between a yeti and a pair of floatlings over something idiotic.

Player: Really?

Shadstream (nodding): Yeah. Anyway, you better keep doing what you're doing. People are starting to warm up to you.

Shadstream: Do you mind if you bring some of your fellow humans over here?

Shadstream: It would really send a message if we could get a team of humans to really boost our inclusivity.

Shadstream: The more people that want to help, the more we can do good for Crystal Caverns!

Shadstream provides the player with an ice blue speech bubble at the top right side of their screen. It appears in a dazzling rainbow light, alerting the player of its presence.

Shadstream: You can use this feature to talk to the humans that want resources from you at your Market Stall...

Shadstream: ...but after you get them the resources they need for the day.

Shadstream: Press the blue button, select your intention, and confront the person of your choice.

Shadstream: Come back to me after you invite someone. There's no chance that they can turn you down!

The player's next quest:
  • Beggars Being Choosers: Invite someone from your village to come to Crystal Caverns. Make sure that you have already given them what they wanted that day and make sure to be patient--they might arrive a day late!

Part 6: New Friends[]

The person/people the player invited will appear in the tree fort the day after they send their invitation(s).

Shadstream: Welcome, all! Someone decided to come in while you were away.

Shadstream: Apparently, they are willing to work for us and collect resources passively for payment.

Shadstream: I've instructed them to put all of the resources they found in Donations to help us automate things.

Shadstream: Care to say "hi" to them?

Player: Oh, where are my manners? Hi, everyone!

Each invited person, in turn, says either "Hello!" or "Greetings!" back.

Shadstream: All of them agreed to find materials for our villagers and they expect ample compensation. This isn't a charity, after all.

Shadstream: Let's see...how about 1000 Gold per person per day? Yeah, that's what we agreed on. Now, I'm broke, so...

Player: No worries!

Shadstream: They will come back once every day to collect payment and receive instructions.

Shadstream: They won't leave if you don't pay them, but they won't do work if they don't have the financial motivation.

Shadstream (condescendingly): I know I should have told you about the cost sooner, but it's not like you can't afford it.

Shadstream: Well, I figured I'd let you explore for a while now that you don't have to do all of the work.

Shadstream: See, there's yet another section of the caverns that I haven't warned you about, and I call it Crystal Caverns Far East.

Shadstream: It's guarded by BIG rocks and was abandoned for many years. I've heard that there are highly-prized crystals in there.

Shadstream: Maybe if you can collect them, that would be worthwhile. Can you do it? Bring me back something!

The player is given the following quests:
  • Payday: Pay your coworkers for harvesting work 7 times.
  • Far East Meets West: Clear a path to Crystal Caverns Far East.
  • Rare Rocks: Break a hard rock in Crystal Caverns Far East to get a stone. It might take many tries!

Part 7: Revelations[]

The player doles out money to their coworkers for a week and manages to clear rocks and tree trunks guarding Crystal Caverns Far East, finding the ruins of abandoned ore mines on the way in. They eventually retrieve an Icevein and take it to Shadstream.

Shadstream: Wow! It looks beautiful! You must have finally gotten to the inner, more sacred parts of the land.

Shadstream: Now that we have everything set up, we could probably explore it together. You know what, it sounds fun enough for me!

Shadstream: Here, use your Invitation feature I gave you to get your coworkers to come explore Crystal Caverns Far East.

Shadstream: It will cost 3000 Gold on the days they explore with you, so watch your spending.

Player: Can I lower this cost?

Shadstream: Sorry, but I already made a deal with them. It's not like they'll budge.
