Prologue[]
The Puppet Master dipped a magic feather into a small container of dark ink. He was going to write a prophecy. A prophecy that sounded so beautiful and magical. that no one would even think that it was fake. Except for the fact that it was. See, the Puppet Master was going to make this fake prophecy a hypnotic trance that would be a sinister plan to steal the entire continent. He and his goofy assistant, Pippet, were going to take over Prodigy Land, once and for all. He'd seen hundreds..maybe thousands of wizards defeat some of the toughest challenges. And which ones did he hate most of all? The Wardens. The Wardens were a group of wizards who perfected their element. They learned to tame all of the element's wildest creatures, and they even knew how to teach very well. Just a couple of centuries ago, the Puppet Master had cast a powerful spell on the Warden keystones of the academy. The keystones were scattered all over the continent and somehow the Wardens had managed to keep their element keystones to themselves. Not for much longer will they have their precious keystones, the Puppet Master thought fiercely, as he made his finishing touches on the fake prophecy. He smiled a sinister grin and lied back in his large, rotating king chair. Soon, I shall get those keystones back, and rule the continent, he chuckled darkly, I shall indeed.
Part One: Sun & Sea[]
Chapter 1[]
Flora gracefully flew across the beautiful plains covered with flowers and admired her kingdom. Everything seems so quiet and peaceful here in the forest, she thought, flying across the nearest village and examining the merchants, who were busy stocking their shops for the day. ''Good day!'' one of the merchants said, as Flora landed near a cafe. ''Oh--good day!'' Flora said, almost forgetfully, as her wings buzzed with excitement. ''Oops! I almost disrespected, you, your highness,'' the merchant said quickly, and then bowing loyally. Oh, yes, Flora was the queen of Firefly Forest. ''Oh, you didn't disrespect me. Not at all!'' Flora blushed and entered the cafe and ignored the annoying ringing sound of the bell. Flora waved at the cashier, and she walked up to the counter. ''Good morning, your highness,'' the cashier said, ''What might please you today?'' Flora wasn't that hungry, in fact, but she ordered a mint tea for refreshment. Flora looked around the cafe and spotted a wizard, reading the daily news and sipping fresh olive tea. Flora wished she had the time to relax sometimes, and to be able to read the news, but since she was queen, she barely had any time to. After drinking almost of all of her tea, she left the cafe and headed back to the palace. Suddenly, a very hungry TripTrop almost knocked her over. ''Hey!'' Flora exclaimed, catching her balance again after spinning twice. ''I'm so sorry, your highness!'' she heard someone say, urgently, as she came back into complete consciousness. A female wizard, who looked like a beginner, came and caught the creature by its horns. Leaves and lecture, Flora thought. ''Excuse me, but we don't hold nature's creatures like that by its horn,'' Flora remarked, bossily, ''You may harm it!'' ''Sorry, sorry, sorry..'' the beginner wizard apologized, carrying it instead. She quickly dashed away, whispering angrily to the TripTrop she was carrying. Oh! Flora realized, her wings fluttering. That was one of her traits. Whenever she had an idea, or whenever she realized something she'd forgotten, her wings buzzed uncontrollably. I almost forgot about my dear, Florian, Flora realized. Florian was Flora's husband. He was the King of Firefly Forest. This morning, he'd been prepping for the annual Firefly Forest parade. When Flora made it back to her palace, she immediately spotted Florian, yelling at his assistants. They were helping him prep for the parade. ''Left! Right! No, that's too far!'' Flora blushed, almost embarrassed. ''Flora!'' Florian exclaimed, fluttering down to kiss and hug Flora. Flora heard some dazed chattering behind them. ''Oh, be quiet, you grasshoppers! Flora, honey, where have you been? I didn't see you this morning! I was so worried and afraid what might've happened to you!'' Florian said, his eyes wider than a Crookfang's jaws. ''Sorry,'' Flora replied, ''I just went to get some breakfast, that's all!'' Florian eyes went wider. ''So you didn't notify the wardens about the you-know-what?'' ''What do you mean? The other wardens don't go to the parade!'' Flora said, her wings fluttering, calmly. ''No, it's not about that. Remember the huge festival that's happening in Lamplight Town? Everyone is supposed to be coming!'' Florian reminded her, his wings fluttering calmly, shadowing hers. ''Oh! Yes, I forgot to tell them,'' Flora said, her wings drooping. ''Hey, don't feel sad. As busy as we are right now, it's no surprise that you forgot,'' Florian said, placing his hand on her shoulder, making Flora perk up, again. Everyone? Flora thought, looking out the window. This is going to be huge. ''Sometimes, the wardens already know,'' one of Florian's assistants said. ''But this year, it's probably going to be the biggest one yet!'' ''Shut up, David,'' the other assistant said, kicking the carpet. ''Besides, remember the time when Florian said he'd stick a cactus up your nose if you were being the most interested person in their private conversations?'' ''I never said---'' Florian started, but he got interrupted by David. ''He wouldn't say that! And I was simply just helping the queen! Besides, he never said that anyway. And if he did, you, Stewart, would be the one plucking needles out of your nose,'' David countered, straightening up his stance. ''Well,'' Stewart rejected, ''it seems for you that yourself would be plucking needles out of your own nose, and rubbing it with all of your fancy magic lotions and creams!'' ''How do you know about my personal belongings?'' David questioned, hotly. ''Because your skin is always gleaming like a star!'' Stewart smirked, ''and too bad no lasses would even dare come across to y---'' ''ENOUGH, you LIZARDS!!'' Florian roared, gesturing toward the door. David and Stewart left the room, quickly, without a single word. But once they were out of sight, Flora could hear them angrily whispering insults at each other. ''Sorry, Flora,'' Florian said, apologetically. ''Sorry that they're just two nimrods who'd rather fuss at each other than avoid their fate.'' Flora didn't hear the last words of that sentence. She was still thinking about the parade. I can't wait! Maybe I'll act even more bossier than ever, so people will actually realize who's the best queen of Prodigy Land. Florian looked curiously at Flora, but realized she didn't want to be bothered. So he left the room and got back to work. Maybe Prodigy Land won't be such a disaster after all...
Chapter 2[]
It was going to be a wonderful evening in Prodigy Land. The annual festival was about to start, and Flora could see thousands of wizards with their pets chattering excitedly and gasping when they spotted Flora and the other Wardens. Wow, it's so beautiful! Flora thought, gasping just like the crowd as she looked everywhere. It was a beautiful sight. There were booths with a delicious variety of foods, such as one of the wizard's cherry danishes, baked fresh with love and magic. There were banners with each element's insignia on them. Each insignia was surrounded by stars, and had ancient script on them. Flora didn't know much Ancient language, but she knew a little, and she could interpret one. Flora, hunched in her queen throne and read the script.
''The continent of Prodigy shall be content with ancient powers, and shall shine brighter than an astral star and engulf the darkness. The continent of Prodigy shall rise for the mountains of flame and bow to the strength of aquamarine and shall be content. Forevermore.''
Flora was puzzled. What exactly does that mean? Is something happening to the Ancient? Flora didn't have much time at all to think about it. She could hear the sound of the trumpets starting and the curtains opening with pride. Flora sat up straight as she heard Florian thump on the microphone to indicate if it worked. ''Testing. 1 2 3. Testing. Ah! There we go,'' Florian's voice sounded the tiniest bit of flustered and slightly embarrassed. ''Welcome, wizards of Prodigy! I am Florian. guardian of the amazing element of earth and mud and...'' Everyone was silent. ''Anyways,'' Florian said quickly, ''shall we introduce our wonderful Wardens?'' Flora sat up straight and immediately started making the finishing touches on her dress, face, and hair. Suddenly, she heard a slithering sound. Except she wasn't scared. She knew exactly who it was. ''Oh my slime!'' a high pitched children-like voice squeaked. ''I don't need anyone thinking I'm just another creature!'' An unusual blue, murky and slimy creature slithered towards Flora. He was wearing a mantle without a hood. The mantle was red, and at the front of it, it had about twenty small buttons lined down the middle. On the back of the creature's mantle, there was a flame insignia. On Flora's royal mantle, it was the same, but instead of twenty, she had only three large buttons. And just like the creature's mantle, Flora had a earth insignia on the back of her mantle-dress. ''Slurpy!'' Flora exclaimed, running and almost trampling not only but her dress but her friend's mantle. ''I've missed you! Where have you been? What have you been doing?'' Flora asked Slurpy, as he rubbed dust of his shoulders. Not that he had any. He was a murky, blue slime, of course. ''Yeah, I've been wondering the same thing! Where have you been? And--oh! Everyone else is here, too! Hey, Benni, Bok, and Eve! Why don't you guys show yourselves?'' Slurpy exclaimed, almost as excited as Flora. ''Argh! Ahoy, mateys! Where the barnacles have you been, you flower freak?? I've been wondering why you didn't answer my royal chats!'' Eve exclaimed, with a pirate-like mantle with an eye-patch on her right eye. ''Sorry,'' Flora said. ''I've been busy---'' ''Doin' what? Hugging little goats and givin' them a bath?'' Eve joked, hugging Flora. ''I missed you,'' Flora answered. ''Hey, Flora!'' Benni said. ''I am so excited to see you again! Ooh--Broccolina will be so jealous!'' And then there was Bok. His thundering footsteps may make you think he's big and thundery, but his heart is as soft as a cupcake. ''Flora! My friend!'' Bok said, louder than a ''Storm's Coming'' spell. ''Hi, Bok,'' Flora said. ''I miss you, Flora! I was wonder where you where!'' Bok didn't speak much English, but he knew enough that his friends could understand. Flora couldn't wonder how he was the king of Shiverchill Mountains when he barely knew any English, but somehow he managed to become King. The music outside the curtains blasted louder, and the curtains rose as Flora and her friends straightened up and looked presentable for the fans. ''Wizards and witches. please allow us to introduce your Wardens and Kings and Queens! Flora, queen and Warden of earth and Firefly Forest!'' Florian said, proudly. Flora bowed courteously and waved at all of the screaming wizards. ''King and Warden of the element of fire and Bonfire Spire, meet Slurpy!'' Slurpy had an that's-king-Slurpy-to-you expression in his face, but he straightened his face and bowed and waved as well. As Florian introduced all of the other Wardens, Flora heard a rummaging sound in the back. As Florian chattered to the crowd, Flora was alarmingly scared. What was that? Is there something..stalking us? Flora looked forward and tried to put on her bossiest queen face like she was meant to do, but she couldn't. Her friends could tell if something was wrong, because Eve spoke up. ''Excuse me, Florian, but could you give us a minute?'' Florian hesitated for a second, but nodded. Florian could tell the fans were flustered, surprised, and concerned. Maybe even angry. So he decided to distract them with some classic cheesy Dad jokes. The fans chuckled softly at Florian's jokes as Flora and her friends took off to the back of the stage. ''What is it, Flora?'' Benni asked, looking even more concerned than she needed to. ''I heard something back here,'' Flora responded, her eyes darting around the room. At least I did. What if Eve thinks I'm crazier than a out of control bean plant? ''What did it sound like? Do you think it was one of those Applepots? The summer festival is going to start in a few, and it's possible that those sneaky creatures are poking around. Last year, I was hosting a fruit stand, and one of those pesky 'pots stole a pineapple! It was as disrespectful than a---''
''Zip yer lips, you slimy creature!'' Eve exclaimed, ''Flora, you can continue.''
''Thank you, Eve. So I was hearing these noises. I thought you'd think I was crazy, Eve, but you actually care. I can't argue with that, but if something is allegedly back here, could it be something...'' Flora started..
''Sinister? Creepy? Dark? Scary?'' Slurpy answered, his jelly body shuddering and vibrating faster than the speed of astral light.
''Bok agree, it could be something dangerous,'' Bok agreed, nodding, as his purple owl squawked with agreement.
''Slurpy, hasn't it occurred to you that you aren't very bright, sometimes? We may never know what this noise could be. You haven't even asked what it even sounded like. It was probably an Applepot, that creature Slurpy mentioned earlier!'' Benni snapped. ''Besides, who else could it be? That conniving and sinister master is probably hiding and waiting for someone to toss tomatoes on the stage or something!''
''But Flora wouldn't have called us back here if it was just for a harmless creature,'' Eve countered.
''Flora would not call us back here if it was tiny noise!'' Bok agreed.
''Good point,'' Benni realized, sighing a huge breath.
''Flora, what exactly did you hear? And could you be specific?'' Eve asked, softly.
Flora paused for a slight moment. ''Well, it kinda sounded like rummaging. Or maybe someone looking through something. Or perhaps even breathing or light footsteps. But there definitely wasn't any loud noises. Or crashing sounds or sounds that sound like someone casting a spell. Sorry, but that was all of the detail I can think of.''
''No, no, that was helpful. So it wasn't an Applepot. Interesting,'' Slurpy remarked.
''Well--'' Bok started, but there was a loud booming sound coming from outside the curtains, followed by shrieking, screaming, yelping, and Florian trying to calm everyone down. Flora gasped as she pulled open the curtains wide enough for her and her friends to fit through and gasped in terror. Everyone except Florian and a couple puzzled wizards were screaming and scooping up their children and belongings and running for safety. ''Flora, what's going--'' Flora heard one of her friends ask, but she was too distracted by the screaming and horror of everyone else. The booming sounds continued loudly, and Flora couldn't believe what she saw next. Up in the sky, there he was. The Puppet Master. He was riding some kind of weird magic carpet. He was chuckling maniacally, and he was flying straight towards the Wardens. The wind started blowing furiously, and the wizards running the boots abandoned their shops in desperation. ''Flora, we need to run,'' Florian told Flora.
''But--my friends...I can't leave them!'' Flora objected, as her friends were helping everyone else evacuate.
''It's too late! We'll all get killed if we don't run! I don't want to lose you!'' Florian countered back.
Flora started to cry, as the Puppet Master smugly circled around Lamplight Town, casting powerful spells, damaging the content shops and scenery.
''NO!''
Flora was distracted for a second, and she turned around to see that Florian had a lightning strike on his chest.
And was bleeding.
Chapter 3[]
''Florian!'' Flora shrieked, dashing towards him and kneeling down to help. ''SOMEONE HELP!'' But no one could hear her. They were all too busy shrieking and fleeing without hesitation. ''Flora, it's all right,'' Florian said, weakly, his eyes barely open. It doesn't make sense. How could a lightning strike---like this---do enough damage to make him bleed out like this? ''Florian, hold on...'' Flora said, looking around to find something. ''I'm taking suggestions...'' Florian said, with a small, coughing laugh. There has to be something around here that I can use to heal him...I can't let him die. It'll be all my fault. Flora spotted something rolling around in the street. ''Stay here for another second..'' Flora said, barely hearing his mumbled response. Flora looked above, and ignored the Puppet Master's cruel cackles and his powerful spells, flying dangerous debris everywhere. Flora nearly was knocked off her own feet similar to this morning's encounter when a flying piece of a stand flew over her head. The wind was blowing furiously, and little specks of fog and smoke was beginning to rise around her. A prototype of Forest's Hurricane, Flora thought, fighting through the wind. Well, that won't stop me from saving Florian. Flora's feet felt the cobblestone pavement and she squinted her eyes, looking for what she saw earlier. Flora immediately spotted the small glass container, rolling straight towards her. Aha, Flora thought, grasping the container and rushing back towards Florian. Flora examined the bottle after crouching once again next to Florian. Sprouts and Sproots, Flora thought, this potion is really powerful. It will help Florian, but it'll have side effects. Flora blinked at Florian and looked back at the potion. Well, as long as it saves Florian, it'll be way better than just letting him die. Flora popped open the lid and read the back label.
Healing Potion
This potion has the ability to remove scratches, burns, blisters, scars, itches, rashes, and more irritating and irritable scratches. This potion will work on every wizard, but for certain people, it may cause certain side effects. (Ex: Sore throats, itchy eyes, or none worse than those.)
Directions:
Carefully drizzle the liquid over your injury. (It will burn for a slight second.)
Flora hesitated. Side effects? Will it hurt him even more tomorrow? Flora wasted no time pouring the clear liquid over Florian's bleeding lightning scar. Florian's eyes went bloodshot red for a second, to Flora's frightened surprise, but they soon turned back into regular form as Florian's eyes opened slowly. He coughed a couple times, before mumbling, ''Flora?'' Flora gratefully and thankfully hugged Florian. ''You're all right. I was so worried. Did the lightning scar hurt?'' Florian chuckled, softly, ''Well, I guess you could say it did. We'd better get out of her before anything else strikes either one of us.'' Flora helped Florian to his feet and they turned around to leave.
But instead of the door, the Puppet Master was there instead.
''You're far enough, Florian. Stay right where you are,'' the Puppet Master sneered, his annoying assistant Pippet, started laughing.
''Out of the way, you cricket. We're trying to go to our home. Which would probably be a great idea for you before I knock you out and leave the Wardens and I to deal with. So, basically, you'd better start running away in terror now,'' Florian said, shielding Flora.
The Puppet Master chuckled and pretended to look around, ''I don't see any little Wardens around here! Perhaps they ran away from me and my devilish powers.''
Flora spoke up and stepped to the side, facing the Puppet Master. ''Well then you will probably need some new glasses. I'll make sure to let the witches know.''
The Puppet Master grinned a devilish and sinister grin. ''Your friends, who won't be once I'm through with you, are probably fleeing with terror now to another continent. In fact, they are. See, I've been working on something that'll put the five keystones in my grasp, and I'm in zero doubt that it'll work out just perfectly. You and your annoying friends who are a pain-in-the-rear and your pipsqueak husband, Florian, will be terribly and satisfyingly destroyed. And yourself, Flora, will be the most terribly devoured. Your Warden friends may have the Warden keystones right now, but soon they won't. I predict at least five days before my plan will become in action. And how will this work? I can show you better than I can tell you,'' the Puppet Master said, reaching into his cloak and pulling out a sheet of paper. It looked like a scroll.
''Ready?'' Pippet smirked.
''Huh, let's be honest. No.'' Florian snapped back, limping forward.
''Sure,'' Flora said, calmly.
The Puppet Master unrolled the scroll and used his shadow powers to levitate the paper. The scroll was nearly into Flora and Florian's faces. It looks like a prophecy, Flora observed, but how can it be a prophecy? Didn't that Michael kid already complete one? I thought he said he agreed to zero prophecies.
The Puppet Master's paper levitated back to him and he rolled it into a scroll again and tucked it into his pocket.
''Now do you get it? This plan has no reason to fail. Everyone already knows about it. Even your snobby friends. Just believe this: you'll die in five days. Bottom line. You and your friends' days of sunshine and enjoyment is over. This war will drag on endlessly, and people will automatically beg me to have mercy on their soul. I...will....rule...Prodigy...one....day....'' The Puppet Master said, cackling cruelly. Pippet started laughing as well. Flora ignored them.
''Not for much longer you will,'' a familiar friendly voice behind them said, triumphantly.
