— The Instigator
|
The Instigator is a fan character for Prodigy. They are the transfer clone template for Caltrop.
She is morally-gray joke character not used in roleplays, fanfictions, or any current game ideas. The following data is available, but will not be used.
Appearance[]
The Instigator is a pale gray-skinned infernal wizard with five thin, dark markings that extend from the back of her neck to her forehead over her scalp in a tabby-like fashion. She does not have any hair on her head or face and lacks eyebrows. In their place are a separate pair of eyes; however, all four of them are the same: they are a deep black except for the white-hot irises that separate her pupils from the rest of her eyes. Her head is completely exposed, but the rest of her body is kept under a dark turquoise-gray accountant's suit with near-invisible vertical charcoal pinstripes. She has an untucked matching tie that she frequently adjusts in order to keep it in place without a lapel. Her undershirt is a light blue-green that can be seen under her tie and slightly past the end of her blazer's sleeves. Both of her hands have three dark markings that extend from in between her knuckles and back into the sleeves. She carries at most two briefcases at a time, often in natural colors or shades of deep purple.
When using her Console, her dark markings and irises temporarily glow teal. The Console projects itself as a set of blue-green rectangles that hover and fill with text before they disappear. After that occurs, her changed body parts return to their normal coloration.
Personality[]
"Worse than dead inside--thinking that everyone else around her is dead."
The severity of the changes that the Instigator experienced upon transfer from the real world into Prodigy caused her to approach entities differently in the game than how she did in the real world. Previously, she had emotions and responded to them. Nearly certain that the Prodigy universe was simulated and its contents as well, she lacked empathy for them and continues to feel no guilt for any actions that others may find questionable. She thinks thoughts and responds to them without consideration for the potential sentience of the arguably real, emotional entities she interacts with.
Every part of Prodigy, she believes, is simulated. She thinks that she can interact with the simulation by making herself a part of it and creating near-permanent changes, and this idea turns out to be true: her influence has a lasting effect on the islanders around her, but she doesn't know it. Prodigy's entities are coming alive as a result of the changes to the console she has made and her lack of knowledge that there are others like her may classify her as unintentionally destructive. She cannot be blamed for she knows nothing of the severity of what she does!
Upon meeting Trialmasters in an anti-Order sting operation once when she was directed by them under the guise of an Order minion to take part in a meeting with the Puppet Master (in which the Instigator just wanted to have a chat), she barely escaped and realized that she would be in danger if she ever encountered a belligerent law enforcer within Prodigy. She is now frequently suspicious of people within the Order as well as people outside of it.
Weapons/Gear[]
Her clothing provides no health, damage, or other buffs. However, she sometimes carries briefcases which may contain objects that provide her instructions for downloading console components.
Abilities[]
- Console Access: The Instigator can interact with the Developer Console of Prodigy within the universe and sees it similarly as a first-person gamer would view their User Interface (UI) alongside overworld images. There are limits to what changes can be made regarding crucial matter within the universe, but she is motivated by the possibility of modifying the implant that has console data so that she has more power. The Console can edit the appearance of anything, change entity data, cause past events to change, add and delete elements of the Prodigy universe, and allow anyone the Instigator permits to teleport instantaneously.
- Master of None: The Ancient barred the Instigator from being able to master any form of magic from the Astral, Earth, Ice, Storm, Fire, or Water elements. Not only is she unable to access or drain energy from the keystones without heavy modification of her Console, she cannot use magic without interacting with imbued technology.
- Hands-Free Mode: The Instigator can evade having to use a Developer Console to execute Nonmagical moves and Simulated spells. The Console itself is visible to all non-blind entities as a projection through the Instigator's eyes and already lacks the need to be controlled by hand motion or touch.
- Pocket Dimension Access: If she ever carries a briefcase, she can move all of its contents into a small, invisible storage space using the Console. If another person reaches into a pocket-dimension briefcase, they can access her possessions. If the Instigator wants to close an entrance into the pocket, she can do so with her Console.
Combat Information[]
By default (without manipulation or use of her Console), the Instigator has the following attributes:
- Base Health: 500
- Power-Health Ratio: 5:5
- Hearts Growth Rate: 299-300
- Max Health: 30151

The Instigator is also incapable of using the Console quickly and efficiently; its use takes at least one turn.
Normally, the Instigator is discouraged from causing violence. This may be due to what the Order employed her for (as part of a code of conduct) or by self-decided pacifism. If encouraged to fight, she will either decline or use the Console to replace her texture with a transparent set of PNGs (rendering her invisible), then run or teleport away. She often forgets to hide herself and must retroactively encode that she cloaked herself before going on a mission. She cannot cloak in the middle of battle because she never enters them.
Since there is no part of the Console that can log verbal interaction between characters or record them with just the Console, the Instigator must observe others herself.
Trivia[]
- She is the Steward of the Nonmagical Element, which is essentially the status of being a Warden without necessarily being loyal to the Academy. She did not earn this status.
- Rueful initially wanted the Instigator to be a joke Mary Sue self-insert, but realized that the process was agonizing and they probably would not want to laugh at the memory of making her.
- The intentional glitchy nature of the Island Origins animation was a reminder that the vision of in-game players is completely simulated, the game fabricated. Although it is unknown whether or not these visual glitches resulted from Elemental Storms or from the exposure to Shadow influence, it inspired Rueful's choice to create a flawed, godlike character.
- Unlike her nicknames, The Instigator is neither able to use shadow magic nor is a shadow herself. She supports the Order of Influence without being magically corrupt herself, as she is incapable of using it directly.
- Her current appearance was heavily influenced by designs for The Ancient and VALVe's Gman.
- Note to the visual designers of Chamber: why the hell did you copy her!?!?!
