“ | I have seen the light all my life, but it is not my intention to blind myself. I was forced to look to it and had no ability to avert my eyes. | ” |
— The Smuggler
|
The Smuggler is an NPC not used in roleplay.
Appearance[]
A long-whiskered, anthropomorphic hybrid mouse born with agouti-like looks. Unlike Mozza Ella, his hair melds with the rest of his curly pelt; it is well-kept, glossy, and golden-brown. His eyes are red, but fixed on a black sclerae from frequent lack of exposure to sunlight. Under his dark-colored, partially-bejeweled clothing lies a rather muscular build from what looks like decades of physical activity and travel on foot in the Underworld. He has opposable thumbs on his clawed front and hind paws, which are used for gripping and climbing over rubble and other obstacles.
Personality[]
Like other Adherents, he is highly likeable and amicable at first. He shows his praise for wizards that want to help him babysit and educate the Little and Junior Adherents or help him with anything he needs assistance with. He is frequently excited to tutor players on failed mathematics questions within the Underworld.
Weapons/Gear[]
He does not possess any weapons or gear for himself, but he has a total health buff of 24, a total damage buff of 20, and other benefits from unseen equipment. He may cast spells and nonmagical moves from his front paws. In battle, he is almost always of nonmagical nature.

Key Items[]
However, The Smuggler possesses plenty of equipment he may drop after combat or give the player willingly if they complete quests. Most notably, he possesses storage unit full of sleek Nonmagical Tablets that are exchanged for the player's spellbook after conversion therapy is successfully performed to turn the player's nature from Astral to Nonmagical.
Unorthodox Weapons[]
In addition, he still stores chemicals, potion mixtures, and chemical waste in other storage locations within the Catacombs and the Academy Sub-Basement from past experiments and tests. The Smuggler is most often found messing around with antinomy, lead, and mercury alloys, poisons containing arsenic, and hard-to-develop explosive chemicals like octaazacubane, some of which he uses in battle.

Trivia[]
- The appearance, design, and character were inspired by what Rueful thought of as the Muskrat from Penelope Scott's early developments of "Rät." In addition, early character concepts were more heavily inspired by the Control Freak from Team Titans, Doctor Two-Brains from Word Girl, and the Demoman from Team Fortress 2.
- Although not considered the guardian wizard of the Academy Sub-Basement or the rest of the Underworld, he is considered one of the most important, lore-wise, to all adventures within those areas.
- The Smuggler's name appears as though he does participate in use of illicit drugs. He claimed in an interview in Lamplight Times that "drug smuggling is not cool, but tunnels are fun to live inside." He appears to be more interested in use of tunnels for occupancy than for use in criminal activity, but his criminal record suggests otherwise.
- His birth name is a reference to Robert Hooke because of his abuse of laboratory mice for biomedical experimentation.
