She flew through the storm.
The rain smashed down onto her wings and ferocious gusts of wind ripped at her face. Trees and vegetation were tortured by the wind, while crashing and desperate cries for help whipped the air. Was she troubled? Not even remotely. Did she think of giving up? Definetely not.
Spearicle pushed on, refusing to give in to the storm. Her entire body pleaded for a short break, a time out from this chaos, into the warm safety of her home. But she couldn't have that now. Not when everything was at stake. Not when her baby's life was at stake.
Where was that place? Where? It had been there a few days ago, Spearicle was sure of it, a warm clearing of cheerfulness in the middle of the cruel world she lived in today. However, instead of the euphoric atmosphere of the clearing, a barren, cold mound stood in its place.
Dread filled Spearicle's heart as soon as she saw this. Her childhood had originated from this clearing; every single entity in here had shaped Spearicle into the Ice Dragon she was today. A thread of memories danced in her mind as she flashed back to the warm daydream of Spearicle's childhood, from pushing the cracks open in her egg to making her first flight. Now they were gone. The dread seemed to take over Spearicle's body, and when it became too much, she dug a small hole to shelter herself from the rain.
Once in the hole, Spearicle shook her head. She couldn't stop the tears rolling down her cheeks as her heart shed tears itself; tears of pain, torture and doubt. Tears of rage, resentment and grief. How could her child survive in this world? A world where everyone juged others because of their difference, a world where some excluded others because their way of doing things wasn't what was the norm. Why, did her child have to face these complications? Why did it have to be the child of a mother who'd been in hardship all her life?
However, as the tears rolled down her cheeks, Spearicle noticed how fresh the environment looked like when she saw it through the tears. The vibrant colors were restored, the rich emerald overgrowth thrived once more, not being tortured by the feroious storm. It was an undeniable beauty found only in these peaks.
Spearicle longed to relish this beauty for longer, but she knew she had to get down to business. Trugding over to the mound, Spearicle examined what the mound was made of. It looked like soil forged deep in the Earth's crust. Soil was good for what Spearicle intended to do, but she had an idea to elevate the quality of the mound. Bending over the mound, Spearicle summoned the Ice that was implanted within her. Then, she let the Ice grow in size using her strength; Spearicle felt the Ice slowly lumber up her stomach, throat and then finally, her mouth. When the Ice reached her mouth, Spearicle breathed out, and a sheet of fresh new frost dropped onto the lumped surface of the mound.
The Ice was just as beautiful as the environment when it was seen through through Spearicle's teardrops. It sparkled with bubbling energy, while at the same time keeping a composure that radiated smugness. Small cracks spread across the surface of the frost, giving the frost a resemblance of cracked glass. This was what Spearicle was proud to be. Ice was her fundamental weapon in battle; Spearicle didn't know what she would do without it. Ice gifted her with self-confidence and personality.
This sheet of frost would be a perfect surface for her child. Despite all the uncertainty and complexity of the recent events and thoughts Spearicle had experience, joy filled her heart as she layed the egg onto the frost. This was a different type of joy. It was joy that wouldn't topple as soon as a piece of negativity struck; this joy would stay with Spearicle as long as the child was safe.
Now, this was it. Time to leave the child. Spearicle hoped that her child would be safe, at least safe until she could come back.
It took all of her willpower to start flying again. Every wingbeat felt like an eternity; and Spearicle couldn't help but start sobbing again. Unlike before, these sobs lanced across the entire landscape. Anyone who heard it would've been instantly filled with dispair.
But this wasn't the Ice Dragon way. Spearicle had to keep fighting. Fighting for her family. Fighting for her species.
Fighting for her baby.

Light filtered through the minute cracks that spread across the surface. The rough eggshell coughed coursely as I moved around.
